Google Unveils Antigravity 2.0, Merges AI Developer Tools into Unified Platform

Google today announced the launch of Antigravity 2.0 at its annual Google I/O conference, unveiling a major consolidation of its AI coding tools under a single umbrella. The unified platform now includes a new desktop application, Antigravity CLI, expanded SDK capabilities, and deeper integration with the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.

"Listening to your feedback made one thing clear: we can serve you best by pouring our energy into a single product built for today's multi-agent reality," the company stated in a blog post. "We're unifying our efforts into Google Antigravity, our premier agent-first development platform, which includes a powerful server-side harness and a brand-new terminal experience: Antigravity CLI."
The move signals a strategic shift away from standalone coding assistants toward an agent-centric development environment. Industry experts say this will simplify procurement and governance for enterprise customers who previously had to navigate multiple overlapping tools.
Background: A History of Overlapping Tools
Google had introduced several AI coding products in recent years, including Gemini CLI, Gemini Code Assist, and AI Studio. These tools often performed similar functions but lacked a shared backend, creating confusion for developers and IT leaders.
"Google had too many overlapping tools: Code Assist, Gemini CLI, AI Studio, all doing similar things with no shared backend," said Advait Patel, senior site reliability engineer at Broadcom. "Antigravity is the cleanup. The bet is that the future is not autocomplete in your IDE. It is fleets of agents running refactors, infra changes, and reviews in parallel across desktop, terminal, SDK, and Google Cloud."
While the transition doesn't immediately shut down existing paid services like Gemini CLI or Code Assist, it sets a clear direction for future development. Google is investing in a single platform that can serve the entire software development lifecycle.
What This Means for Enterprise Customers
For CIOs and procurement teams, the consolidation will reduce complexity and costs. Previously, enterprises had to manage three overlapping products with separate pricing, identity access management (IAM) models, and support contracts.

"CIOs have been tracking three overlapping Google products with overlapping pricing, overlapping IAM models, and overlapping support contracts," said Bhupendra Chopra, chief revenue officer at Kanerika. The beginning of this unification will mean future simplification for decision-makers.
Patel added that one platform would solve the messy governance problem that arose when companies subscribed to more than one Google tool. This aligns with industry concerns about AI tool sprawl, which Avasant principal analyst Abhisekh Satapathy calls "one of the biggest challenges presently plaguing CIOs."
Beyond procurement, the integration aims to ease integration hurdles. Antigravity is positioned as a foundational operating layer for AI-native engineering workflows. "The disparate products (Gemini CLI, Code Assist) previously behaved as if they were adjacent capabilities," Satapathy explained. "Antigravity moves them into a cohesive ecosystem that supports the entire agentic software development lifecycle."
Developers can expect a seamless experience across desktop, terminal, and cloud environments, enabling parallel execution of refactoring, infrastructure changes, and code reviews. Google is betting that the future of coding is multi-agent collaboration rather than single-user autocomplete.
For existing customers, Google has not announced an immediate end-of-life for other tools, but the message is clear: Antigravity is the long-term home for all AI coding capabilities. Enterprises should start planning their migration to take full advantage of the unified platform's features.
